Historic Dallas Site Demolished December 21, 2024December 21, 2024 The seven storey building that housed Parkland Memorial Hospital for more than sixty years is being demolished. The building is best known as the site where President John F. Kennedy was pronounced dead after being shot at Dealey Plaza on 22 November 1963 and where his accused killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, died two days later after he was shot by local night club owner Jack Ruby. It is interesting to note that local businessman Abraham Zapruder, who became famous for his home movie footage of the assassination died at the hospital in 1970. Although other locations associated with the assassination have been preserved for posterity, there was apparently no effort made to preserve the building once a new facility was built across the street.
